Before you even go out sailing, there are several things you should do to prepare.
  • Get the latest weather forcast.
This is more than listening to the radio or reading the paper. These days, it pays to GRIB your race beforehand, even for bouy races. These give you an hour-by-hour prediction of the big picture weather wise. More detail on GRIBs.
  • Learn what the weather system is expected to do.
Knowing when fronts can be expected to pass thru can help you decide when not to stick you neck out.
